Mastering Sudoku

How do I play Daily Sudoku?
The goal is to fill the 9x9 grid so that every row, column, and 3x3 box contains the numbers 1 through 9 exactly once. Start by scanning for obvious placements and use the pencil tool (notes) to track multiple possibilities in empty cells.
Are these Sudoku puzzles solvable without guessing?
Yes. Every puzzle generated on Daily Logic Games has a single, unique solution that can be deduced entirely through pure logic. Guessing is never required to complete our puzzles.
What is the best strategy for beginners?
Look for "Naked Singles"โ€”cells where only one specific number can possibly fit based on the intersecting row, column, and block. Cross-hatching is also highly effective: focus on one number (e.g., '5') and scan the board to see where a '5' must be placed in an empty 3x3 block.
Do I need to be good at math to play Sudoku?
Not at all! Despite using numbers, pure Sudoku involves absolutely no arithmetic or math skills. The numbers 1 through 9 are simply used as unique symbols. You could replace them with letters, colors, or shapes and the logic required to solve the puzzle would remain exactly the same.
What are "Pencil Marks" and when should I use them?
Pencil marks (or notes) allow you to jot down multiple possible candidates for an empty cell when you aren't certain of the final answer. You should start using the Pencil tool when the obvious "Naked Singles" dry up. As you place definitive numbers on the board, remember to update or erase your overlapping pencil marks to reveal deeper patterns.
What is a "Hidden Single"?
A Hidden Single occurs when a specific number can only be placed in one exact cell within a specific row, column, or 3x3 blockโ€”even if that cell has other penciled-in candidates. Because that number has literally nowhere else to legally go in that sector, it becomes the definitive answer for that cell.
What is the "Naked Pairs" strategy?
A Naked Pair happens when exactly two cells in the same row, column, or block contain the exact same two pencil-mark candidates (and no others). Because those two numbers perfectly account for those two cells, you can safely erase those two numbers from the pencil marks of every other cell in that shared row, column, or block.
What is the "X-Wing" technique?
The X-Wing is an advanced logic pattern where the same candidate number is restricted to exactly two identical columns across exactly two different rows (forming a rectangle or "X"). When you spot this lock-out pattern, you can safely eliminate that specific candidate number from every other cell in those two columns.
